Instead of an hour short plane ride, we decided on the more exciting route of travelling on the road for over 10 hours to Penang. The structures of Georgetown were somewhat familiar, the traffic on the other hand seemed messier and a bit intimidating. But had I stayed on for another week or two, it's likely I'd get used to the tempo of Penang's traffic.
The 3 days we were in Georgetown, we wandered through lanes mainly in search of street art and food - since that is what most people look out for when they travel to Georgetown. I wish we had enough time to visit a national park and the Penang hill, which according to many is quite chilly on top, hence a nice break from the stuffy heat. However, due to poor supposedly "helpful" information received, we wasted too much time waiting for buses that never arrived, and there was also a need to clarify important details regarding our coach ride out of Penang. There were moments of annoyance right until the morning we left, but amidst the disorganised situation we found ourselves in, there were still opportunities for exciting exploring and laughter. I enjoy the little surprises you chance upon in a foreign country, and the challenges I faced in this trip allowed me a better insight on certain things, to trust my faith and practice being courageous and think strategically.
I do believe I will return to Penang in future.
