The only day I stayed at Yamagata City, I took a train to Yamadera where I climbed a thousand steps to the most amazing view. A couple of times, I felt breathless and a bit panicky as my imagination was running wild and I started doubting myself. But I looked ahead and around me more than I looked behind or below, and gradually found my balance and confidence. This simple hike must be peanuts to those who have experienced more extreme journeys. For a city dweller who is accustomed to flatter grounds and who rarely exercises, this can be pretty challenging for the first time. At the top, there was another flight of stairs leading to a shrine. I sat somewhere in the middle of it to catch a breather as I admired the rewarding scenery. A somewhat elderly man walking up the stairs smiled at me widely and said something in Japanese which I could not understand, but got the impression from his body language that it must have been something about how tiring the climb up was. I nodded and smiled back.
Going down was a lot easier, and when I reached the base of the mountain, I had so much of confidence that I figured if I climbed back up again, it'd be a breeze. But with my nearly empty bottle of water, and only an Onigiri to last me till night fall, I made a wiser decision to recuperate.

I almost cried while watching this video because it was so beautiful and the music was perfect and oh my. I feel a bit silly for almost crying to be honest. :D
ReplyDeleteThose hike sounds really hard and even though I hike a lot, I can absolutely understand how tiring it must have been for you, but the expedience that you actually made it and you did not give up was worth all difficulties! I am so proud of you. <3
I feel happy to know that the video has touched you in some ways. It's not silly at all for feeling such emotions, I've experienced that sudden, overwhelming feeling too and it's not even rare for me. :p There is so much power in photography and music.
DeleteOh, definitely! The amount of energy used when walking on rougher terrain and up a constant slope is rather grueling, and yet I loved the feeling of it. I loved knowing that through this, I am in a way building my stamina, which is something I don't get to do often over here. Thank you for the encouragement! Someday, hopefully, we can go on hiking trips together, even if it's just in our dreams. ♥
